Hi! My name is Jan Vopalecký, and I’m excited to share my experience as part of the Erasmus program in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Over the course of two weeks, I had the opportunity to develop new skills in website development, WordPress, and English communication. I worked with Christine Watson at Watson & Co. Chartered Marketing. Christine is an inspiring trainer who creates and delivers fully funded in-person seminars and online webinars aimed at empowering small businesses and individuals.

Here’s a look at what I learned during this incredible journey:

Discovering New Skills

Photography Course at Apple Store

I was surprised to learn that the Apple Store offers free courses on photography and videography. I attended one of these workshops, which provided valuable insights into advanced camera functions and techniques. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn how to create compelling visual content.

Mastering Online Visibility

Go Succeed in Being Found Online

A major highlight of my experience was attending a seminar led by Christine Watson. This session focused on helping businesses improve their online presence, covering topics such as:

Search engine marketing (SEM) Search engine optimization (SEO) Strategies to reach target audiences on social media and other digital platforms The seminar provided practical strategies for optimizing websites to rank higher on search engines and connect with ideal customers.

Gaining Expertise in WordPress Exploring WordPress and Yoast Plugins

I also delved into WordPress, a user-friendly platform for creating websites. As someone who typically focuses on programming, this was a chance to explore the design and content management side of web development. A key area of focus was the Yoast SEO plugin, a tool that helps improve website rankings by optimizing content for search engines. Yoast includes features for readability, keyword optimization, and more. I first heard about Yoast during a training session with Christine and enjoyed exploring its potential. Using free WordPress tutorials, I was able to deepen my understanding of the platform and its plugins.

Improving My English

Living and learning in Belfast gave me the chance to immerse myself in an English-speaking environment. Through daily interactions, seminars, and exploring the city, I became more confident in speaking and understanding English. This experience was invaluable for improving my communication skills.
