Sheryl Sandberg launches free online master class on mental resilience

Course details

Dodging adversity is often not a choice. Encountering a devastating event—the gut-wrenching kind that zaps away joy—is an inevitability of life. In their New York Times best-selling book Option B: Facing Adversity, Building Resilience, and Finding Joy, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg and Wharton psychologist Adam Grant share their insights on building resilience in the face of such setbacks. They offer practical steps you can take to reimagine and rebuild your life when your first choice—your Option A—is no longer on the table, and you’re faced with the task of making the absolute best of Option B. This course highlights some of the powerful topics in this book, including how to talk to friends and colleagues who are hurting when you’re not sure what to say, how to fight the idea that the hurt you’re feeling is permanent, and how to give yourself permission to experience happiness again.

No stranger to deep loss, nor to roles of leadership, business powerhouse Sheryl Sandberg, Chief Operating Officer of Facebook and Founder of LeanIn and Option B has launched a free online master class on mental resilience.

The initiative follows Sandberg’s 2017 book, Option B: Facing Adversity, Building Resilience and Finding Joy. Co-authored with her close friend and Wharton professor Adam Grant, the number one New York Times bestseller is the result of Sandberg’s efforts to turn the pain of her husband’s sudden death into something meaningful.

Following the success of the book, Sandberg and Grant have now launched the resilience master class as a free online course in partnership with LinkedIn.

Sheryl and Grant fundamentally believe that mental resilience is a skill that can be taught, nurtured and developed.

Consisting of nine short videos, the crash course in resilience approaches subjects like the importance of gratitude, self-compassion or how to talk to people who have experienced loss.

“You are not born with a fixed amount of resilience. Like a muscle, you can build it up, draw on it when you need it. In that process you will figure out who you really are — and you just might become the very best version of yourself”.

– Sheryl Sandberg

A female leader operating on the global stage, Sheryl Sandberg suddenly found herself raising two children alone after the sudden death of her husband during a vacation in 2015. Gripped by deep loss, Sandberg found the way to bring joy back into her life through the power of gratitude.

The LinkedIn masterclass is further expanded by,  a place where people who are struggling can find advice, lessons and personal stories on how to deal with adversity in life. Those looking to help others in a difficult situation can find resources to do so.

Visitors can also register and share personal stories and connect with other members, building safe spaces and supporting communities for times of need.
